What are the sizes of the carriers? TOP We currently offer a 16 inch standard body and an 18 inch extended body. My 17 month old can still be carried in the 16 inch body and can have his arms in or out. As far as safety I can still carry my 3 year old in either size, but he prefers the 18 inch for comfort. You can check the product info page to see pictures that might help you choose your size.
What is the difference between the half and the full buckle? TOP Short version is that the half buckle has long tie straps, the full buckle has short buckle straps. : ) For the long version just visit our Product Info page.
When do you plan to stock your store? TOP Right now we are working on semi-custom carriers. We add new prints to the site as we get them and then you can choose the size and style of the carrier. We are also stocking custom slots for people that would like to choose their own print. We will be trying to keep the store stocked with some ready to ship options, they will be added as the are ready.
When are you going to open a new customs list? TOP We have decided to not start another waiting list but rather try out a custom spot stocking. We will stock slots as we are able each week that will allow anyone interested in a custom carrier to purchase them and have their carrier in a much shorter time frame. You can visit our Custom Info page for more information or our Create Your Own! spot in the shopping cart to purchase a spot when they are available.
Where can I see the strap options? TOP We are currently updating our selection of strap colors. When we have swatches for all of the colors they will be viewable as a pop-up page in the Create Your Own! section of our shopping cart. I will try to remember to add them to the Product Info page as well.
Will you offer hemp or corduroy again? What about silk? TOP We will be working on some carrier with corduroy this fall when we have time. They will all be lined with canvas to make them extra sturdy and still super soft. We will offer hemp cord as we have it, you are more than welcome to send in your own hemp cord for your custom order as long as we have discussed it first. Silk is something that I like to look at but I'm honestly not fond of it on baby carriers. Hemp silk is the exception and I think it's a great fabric so if we have it then we will make things with it. You are more than welcome to purchase it for your custom if you would like to.
How can I tell between the testers and the newer versions? TOP The very first testers are Mei Tai's and have an embroidered label on the front waist band. They were sold for $60 and I think that there are only about 8 of them. Next were the testers issued on TBW'er, they are half buckle carriers with a padded waist and Mei Tai straps. They were made with black or natural canvas and have a printed label. They were $60-$65 and I believe that there were around a dozen of these.
The first version of the full buckle or SSC has a straight waist band, 17 or 19 inch bodies and a printed label.
The second version of the full buckle has a curved waist, shortened darts and are 16 or 18 inches. These have a woven label that can be found on the hood or the waist band.
There will be some final modifications to the design to begin the factory process, to get in line with European safety standards and to increase the comfort of the overall wearing experience. As soon as these things are final I will add the details here and to the product info page. It will be very easy to determine that you have the most recent version by some of the changed features.
Please note that there is nothing at all wrong with earlier versions, this has just been a work in progress and I wasn't willing to stop looking for ways to improve it until I felt like it was truly done and the best that it could be.
Why does my new carrier have triangle reinforcing? Is my old one unsafe? TOP No, your older version is not unsafe. In short I had added the reinforcing to the outside and changed the construction slightly for a few reasons. One is that it will make it easier for my seamstresses to construct the carriers. The other reason is that while I am very confident that you don't need to see the reinforcement for it to be safe, there are some people that just aren't convinced that it will be safe and so rather than explain myself over and over again, it's easier for me to just add it to the outside where it is visible and not have to reply to the same types of questions. For the record, there has never been a safety problem with any of the shoulder straps regardless of the material, construction or visible reinforcement. Sometimes it's just better to loose the battle to win the war so to speak.
